WE SWEAT THE DETAILS

Here are examples of the kinds of information we provide to our clients

EXAMPLE #1 - A nice "original" 1964 GTO. The block in the car didn't have a block code. The cast part number on the block was correct for a 1964 389 (9773155) but the casting date was E195, clearly a 1965 date. This situation occured when a dealer installed a "service replacement" block while the car was under warranty. Although the casting date is not period-correct, and the block has no code stamped on the front, it is technically "correct" for this car, but not the original block.

EXAMPLE #2 - Most 1964-1965 GTOs do not have the correct shift knobs when equipped with a 4 speed. All cars left the factory with white shift knobs that had the following three characteristics:

1) none had metal threads

2) all had a parting line that ran around the ball like the equator on a globe

3) all had equal spacing between the "R" and the "1" and the "1" and the "3"

Repro shift balls have few if any of these characteristics.

EXAMPLE #3 - Consoles are frequently interchanged between vehicles. 1964 and 1965-1966 consoles are the most commonly swaped versions seen on online listings. It is very common to see 1965-1966 consoles installed in 1964 GTOs, even though they are incorrect. The same is true for 1968 consoles that are slightly different from 1969 and up consoles.
